Musical Influences;
At 12 years old by chance watching ‘the South Bank Show’ featuring ‘Weather Report.’ I was mesmerised. My Dad bought me two of their albums the next day. I already played trombone and soon realised that the Big Bands of Stan Kenton and Woody Herman were my thing.
My all-time favourites would include Fred Wesley and the New JB’s, Tower of Power, The Jazz Crusaders and Frank Zappa.
Nowadays I gravitate towards modern groove music for the soul music of ‘St Paul and the Broken Bones’, ‘Stone Foundation’ and ‘Smoove and Turrell’. Jazz-Funk of’ Ghost-Note’, ‘Cory Wong’ and ‘Snarky Puppy’. The Afro-Beat of ‘Jembaa Groove’,’ Nubiyan Twist’ and ‘Kokoroko’.

Previous/Current bands;
So many, and a vast array of styles. I was working in the North East, Butlins and Pontins holiday camps from 15 years old in the dance bands and backing the cabaret acts during the late 80’s. Also played a lot of Trad Jazz and after Leeds College of Music I spent most of the 90’s on cruise ships in the cabaret orchestra which included three world cruises on QE2.I then ended up in Suffolk and played a few salsa and latin jazz bands in London, namely ‘King Salsa’. Also ended up touring the UK with the big bands, ‘New Squadronaires’, ‘Glenn Miller tribute’, ‘Sinatra tribute’ and then moved on to a couple of Motown tribute shows. Recently I play with a variety of function bands, shows, orchestras but most regularly with “the Oompah Band’ banging out tacky versions of pop/rock classics which people seem to love getting totally inebriated to!!!

Equipment;
Trombone (king 3B)

Other occupations;
Brass teacher in many schools around Suffolk. Always actively involved in running school big bands and jazz ensembles. Hopefully I have something to pass on to the kids.
